When God saved Israel from Egyptian bondage and captivity, He hedged them in with a cover of protection. However, every time they rejected God and worshipped strange gods, their enemies pursued and overpowered them. And, each time they repented and returned unto the Lord, He delivered them. That was a dangerous pattern which the believer should never imitate. You should never take the grace of God for granted.
Joseph, in Potiphar's house, refused to commit immorality with his master's wife. Daniel, in Babylon did not defile himself with the portion of the king's food and drink. The Hebrew children declared their stand and walked worthy of God, even in a foreign country. The standard of God's word is the same everywhere and at all times.
Since most deaths happen suddenly and in a moment, see then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise - Ephesians 5:15. It is only a few people, like one of the thieves on the cross that may have an opportunity to make their ways right with God, just before death. The majority of people die either accidentally or in their sleep, taken away without hand.
The irrevocable judgment of God comes for every soul after death. The ruling or verdict of that judgment will either be eternal life in heaven or eternal damnation in hell, depending on how the soul concerned lived on earth. Consider the following statement made by the Lord Jesus Christ - "And it came to pass, that the begger died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bossom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, ..." - Luke 16:22-23.
The scripture debunks annihilationism otherwise known as the the doctrine of conditional immortality: the idea that a human soul is not immortal unless it is given eternal life. This satanic doctrine asserts that God will eventually destroy or annihilate the wicked, leaving only the righteous to live on in immortality. But the Bible teaches that all souls are immortal, "And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal - Matthew 25:46.
